India fact that three-fourth of Indian population has

India nearly has altogether
4525 large and small dams and by this time most of the potential of dam
construction in most of Indian rivers have been exhausted or will be exhausted
soon but there is fact that three-fourth of Indian population has no benefits
from it purely due to outdated technology(Bandyopadhyay 2016). In spite of heavy
investments in water resource development through surface water, these dams are
not able to stand upto their proclaimed contributions. At the basin level no
attempt has been made to improve in-situ water conservation. The overall water
use efficiency in large dams is only 35-40% and per-capita water storage in
these dams are too low in

comparison to some of the
advanced countries of the world.
