lot of time and effort goes into developing embedded systems. This means that
it takes a long time before the systems can be marketed and even then they may
not be absolutely reliable. Once they have been developed, it is quite
difficult to change them as they are sometimes limited by the hardware that
they have to be able to work with. On the other hand, they are good for the
environment as there is a relatively low consumption of power and, once on the
market, they become a low-cost item as they may often be bought in bulk by the
manufacturers that use them.
